GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 21st. June, 1913.

Sir,

Ho

15760

In reply to paragraph 2 of your Despatch No. 130 of the 15th. May, I have the honour to state that it was not known until the petitions for letters of denization were received that Mr. E. S. Kadoorie and Mr. E. Kadoorie, both of whom had been long resident in this Colony, were not British subjects. The former was appointed Justice of the Peace on the 20th. February, 1905, and the

latter on the 6th. February, 1911.

2.

The Attorney-General has advised me that as it

has been found that they were ineligible their appointment was not

legal and that consequently it is necessary to remove their names

from the list. I have caused the two gentlemen concerned to be

informed accordingly.

3.

I am taking steps to guard against a repetition

of this error in future.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,
